Communities for Children
About Us

Communities for Children Communities for Children is an innovative early intervention and prevention program that aims to improve the development, health and well-being of children aged 0-5 and their families by addressing local needs and facilitating community participation.

Mission Australia believes that providing opportunities for emotional, social and physical development in the early years is fundamental to ensuring the development of health and wellbeing of children in later life.  In partnership with local community based organisations, we deliver Communities for Children projects in a number of locations across Australia: Dandenong (VIC); Cairns South and Inala to Goodna (QLD); Miller, Blacktown/Mt Druitt and Taree (NSW) and the Mirrabooka area (WA).

Some examples of projects include supported playgroups, men’s parenting groups, anti-natal parenting courses, community nutrition initiatives, and reading initiatives for children under 5 years.  Others include developing resources such as a child friendly community map, a family and children’s services directory, and a talking book (CD) in eight languages about caring for children in the Australian context.

Communities for Children is an Australian Government initiative funded by the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs.
